We gathered at Shantinagar bus stand and left Bangalore on 27th night and reached Kasargod at 5 AM the next morning.We managed ourselves to find rooms for freshening up and had breakfast and left for Bekal fort through a local transport by 9.We reached fort by 10.30 AM.

Bekal Fort , is the largest fort in Kerala, situated at Kasaragod district, North Kerala and it is 67 km from Mangalore spreading over 40 acres (160,000 m2). Some important features of this fort are the water-tank with its flight of steps, the tunnel opening towards the south, the magazine for keeping ammunition and the broad steps leading to the Observation Tower, which is a rarity. From there one has an ample view of towns in the vicinity likeKanhangad, Pallikkara, Bekal, Kottikkulam, Uduma etc. The nearest railway stations are Bekal Fort, Kotikulam, Kanhangad,and Kasargod. This observation center had strategic significance in discovering even the smallest movements of the enemy and ensuring the safety of the Fort.
The Fort appears to have been built up from the sea since almost three fourths of its exterior is drenched and the waves continually stroke the citadel. The Mukhyaprana Temple of Hanuman and the ancient Muslim mosque nearby bear testimony to the age-old religious harmony that prevailed in the area. The zigzag entrance and the trenches around the fort show the defense strategy inherent in the fort.

Unlike most other Indian forts, Bekal Fort was not a center of administration, for no remains of any palace, mansion or such buildings are found within the fort. Arguably the fort was built especially for fulfilling defense requirements. The holes on the outer walls of the fort are specially designed to defend the fort effectively. The holes at top were meant for aiming at the farthest points; the holes below for striking when the enemy was nearer and the holes underneath facilitated attacking when the enemy was very near to the fort. This is remarkable evidence of technology in defense strategy.

After visiting the fort we walked along the Bekal sea shore to reach a fishing village.We had carried lots of water,fruits and vegetables since it was too hot and we knew that we would not be able to get food there.After a long walk we moved towards Chembarika village to see kapil beach.We had chocolates and fruits and rested for a while near the sea shore.It was so peaceful and we had a great time there.By 2.30 we took KRTC bus to Kasargod to reach our rooms.We went to Baskin Robbins to have yummy ice-creams and reached rooms for rest and shower..

In the evening we hired autos and reached Kasargod beach and played a lot in the beach .It was a real fun time.. from there we left at 5.30 PM and reached our rooms and packed to get back to Bangalore for 8.30 PM bus.We reached Bangalore at 6.00 AM the next morning.It was a wonderful day trip to Kerala.
